Born and raised in Compton, California, Tyga (born Michael Stevenson) was just another kid with a dream and a mixtape, hoping to break out of the 'hood. His big break came from an impromptu conversation with Gym Class Heroes frontman Travis McCoy at a Los Angeles sneaker store.

After conversing about kicks and music, Tyga passed along his mixtape, despite not knowing who McCoy was until seeing him later on MTV. Once he realized the connection could get him somewhere, Tyga contacted him relentlessly and soon became part of the group's unofficial crew and signed to McCoy's Bat Squad Records label. Tyga stepped onto a bigger stage performing "This Ain't a Scene, It's An Arms Race" with Fall Out Boy and GCH during the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards alongside another notable guest, hip-hop kingpin Lil' Wayne. The Carter 3 and FOB bassist Pete Wentz suggesting his Decaydance label pairing with Bat Squad to release Tyga's first album. The resulting set,
No Introduction is due in spring 2008 and features production by FOB's Patrick Stump and Stress (Ghostface Killah, Cassidy), along with guest turns by Stump, McCoy and Lil Wayne.
